Privacy policy

SmartCart (“the App”) is a Shopify app made by Techcologic (“we”, “us”). It adds a cart drawer with rewards, add-ons, discount codes, a wishlist and low-stock alerts to Shopify stores. This policy explains what data the App uses when a merchant installs it, and how we protect it.
Information we collect
When a merchant installs the App, we store only what is needed to run it:
- Store details: the store’s Shopify domain and the access token that Shopify issues to the App.
- App settings: rewards tiers, chosen gift products and the ID of the App’s automatic discount. These are saved as App metafields inside the merchant’s own Shopify store.
The App reads product and inventory information through Shopify’s API to show the cart drawer and low-stock alerts. It does not copy or keep this information on our servers.
Information we don’t collect
- We don’t store shoppers’ names, email addresses, addresses, payment details or order history.
- The wishlist is saved only in the shopper’s own browser (local storage). It is never sent to our servers.
- Carts, discounts and checkout are handled by Shopify. The App asks Shopify to apply rewards, but it doesn’t see payment information.
How we use information
- To connect the App to the merchant’s store and keep it signed in.
- To show the cart drawer, rewards and low-stock alerts on the store.
- To give support when a merchant contacts us.
We don’t sell data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Permissions the App asks for
| Permission | Why it’s needed |
|---|---|
| Read products | Show gift and add-on products in the cart drawer. |
| Read inventory | Show “Only 2 left, order soon” alerts. |
| Read themes | Check whether the cart drawer is switched on in the theme. |
| Write discounts | Create the automatic discount that makes rewards free. |
Where data is stored
Store details are kept in a secured database at DigitalOcean, our hosting provider. Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). App settings stay in the merchant’s Shopify store.
Service providers
- Shopify: runs the stores, carts, checkout and the App’s connection to each store.
- DigitalOcean: hosts the App’s server and database.
How long we keep data
When a merchant uninstalls the App, we delete the store’s access details from our database. Shopify then sends a data-erasure request within 48 hours, and we delete any remaining data for that store. App metafields in the store can be removed by uninstalling the App.
Your rights
Merchants and their customers can ask what data we hold about them, or ask us to delete it. We respond to Shopify’s privacy requests (customer data requests, customer erasure and store erasure) automatically. Because the App doesn’t store shopper data, customer requests usually find no data held by us. You can also contact us at [email protected].
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced to merchants in the App.
